The reason we say “care givers” is that this site isn’t restricted to only au pair services, in fact the sheer range of services on offer is one of its most impressive traits. GreatAupair.com offers employment opportunities to au pairs, baby-sitters, nannies, pet-sitters, personal assistants, housekeepers, tutors, senior carers and more. The site has helped to provide care and employment for over a million people, so it seems to be highly effective at matching care givers with host families. When we performed a search to find an au pair in a major US city we were given almost 30,000 results. Now, whilst we accept that a good proportion of those must not be interested in particular jobs (e.g. baby-sitting), it still gives you plenty to choose from.

It is a slick website, full of colour and photos. Members are able to upload photo and video galleries, which is a good way to show potential care givers or employers what you are like in person and how you interact with others. There are also advanced searches which will allow you to specify exactly what you are looking for. It is useful to be able to be very specific about what you need as you’ll inevitably have a lot of results to work through, given the high number of members. If you discover a family or individual who you’d like to contact then, as a paid member, you are able to do so through a private inbox, which keeps personal information secure.

Its use of featuring profiles also means that you have an opportunity to have your profile appear on the homepage and elsewhere, drawing extra attention in your direction. It ought to be noted, however, that this comes at an extra cost, though you might feel the cost is a necessary expenditure given the amount of competition from other users on the site.

Cost is definitely something else you will need to consider with GreatAuPair.com as it’s quite expensive (the main reason that it missed out on the No.1 spot in this category). All members are able to reply to messages but free members cannot make first contact. If you’re patient enough, you’re likely to get emails asking a little more about your situation, and paying members are able to view your personal website URL, should you have one. This is a smart idea because it means that a family who have paid for membership can see your URL, visit your website and contact you through it. This also means that you’re able to sell yourself more completely using your personal website as you can include more information about yourself and have a more unique spin on what it is you do.

There is an impressive amount of information available on the site; every page seems to have links to relevant pieces of information, including articles on how best to perform interviews or how to behave during interviews. The site’s admin team also seem keen for genuine feedback as a “give feedback” button sits on the corner of each screen to allow you to make any suggestions which you think might improve the site. One of the few flaws of GreatAuPair is its registration process. It takes a few more minutes than most because it requires that you answer more questions before you’re allowed to get going. Though this takes more time and effort it is probably worth completing as much as you can as this information is used to match care givers with families. In fact, you can opt to receive fast match emails, which is essentially a list of available caregivers or jobs that is sent to each member through their inbox. This takes away some of the necessity of searching through wades of profiles for yourself as it only sends the newest and most relevant matches to you.

There are lots of extremely useful features on GreatAupair.com but as it's more expensive than some of its main rivals, it doesn't take the top spot in the US Babysitting Websites category. It is, however, well worth signing up for the free membership of GreatAuPair.com.
