NannyPro.com is one of the leading baby sitter websites around. It’s a user-friendly site with two distinct sections which help to distinguish between your needs as either a family or a baby sitter. Actually the site offers two services to families: nannies or babysitters. The difference tends to be that babysitters are expected to work intermittently as and when you need them, whereas nannies take up a more permanent post, sometimes even living in the family’s home. So although Nannypro.com doesn’t offer the widest range of services it does offer some variety and also has a sense of being a specialised site.

Signing up is relatively easy, though you are required to provide an address and phone number in the USA or Canada. This slows down the process somewhat and we sometimes felt a little uneasy at entering our contact details prior to actually requesting any kind of service, but this is often the case on these websites as they want to avoid fake profiles from being set up. It’s an extra security measure and means that paying members will be able to see your details and contact you directly.

The site offers only two packages, its free package and a paid premium account. The free membership allows you to perform searches, view profiles, save profiles to a list of favourites, send unlimited messages, perform background checks and post unlimited jobs. The paid membership allows you to do the same, but you can now receive messages and are given a free Complete NannyPro Hiring Guide. There’s also no automatic renewal of your membership, which means that when it ends you won’t automatically be billed for the next year. This is good to see because many sites will automatically renew your membership without asking and you’ll find yourself with an unexpected bill in the mail. Of course it is possible to simply post a profile or job using the free membership, wait until you have some messages and then pay to upgrade so that you might reply, otherwise (given that the membership is a year long) just pay for the membership outright if you think you stand a good chance of finding the job or sitter that you want. And this raises another question: how likely is it that you will find the family or sitter you’re looking for? Our basic search in a well known US city gave us approximately 60 results. Now whilst this isn’t a staggering amount each profile was complete (except some which were without a photo) and all of them were within 20 miles of our zip code. This is actually a relatively high number of results given the proximity to our set location; whilst other sites will suggest that 1000 sitters are available, many of them live in completely different states or abroad. NannyPro focuses more on local sitters who want local jobs, which is generally what most people will want.

There are a few other things you can do on this site, including reading the nannyPro.com blog or checking out the detailed FAQ. We would like to see a few more features though, particularly regarding the sorts of things nannies can do with their profile. Personalising a profile with layout or adding a video or sound clip would really help to get an impression of what that individual is like.

Overall NannyPro is an effective site for finding and hiring nannies, or for finding a job as a nanny. Its local focus means it doesn’t appear to have as many members as other sites, but all of the jobs it recommends are located in your area. The price is right too, and the free NannyPro Hiring Guide might also be an added incentive if you’re unsure how to go about interviewing and hiring a nanny.
