If you love children and want the time and money to explore the USA then AuPairInAmerica.com offers a service to help you fulfil your travelling dreams. It’s a government designated programme, so you can rest assured that the job done will be legitimate and, all going well, professional. There’s a lot of information on the site for host families who are looking to hire an au pair regarding all the technicalities of getting visas, transport issues and general information on what they are expected to provide for an au pair (a private room, time off and so on), which is very useful as the whole process can seem a little daunting to first-timers. Equally there is plenty to read for people who are looking to become an au pair as to the sorts of services they might be expected to provide and how to adapt to life abroad. 

Au pairs can apply online with AuPairinAmerica.com, which is a relatively efficient way of getting the ball rolling. There isn’t a great deal to the site otherwise, but you can “meet the families” and take a glimpse at the sorts of families they have available in the US. As the site is exclusively for au pair job matches and sorting out the paper work there isn’t a ‘range’ of jobs as such, but the site is focused so if you’re looking for an au pair or to become an au pair then the lack of variety likely isn’t an issue. However, if you’re a male au pair then they recommend looking elsewhere as Au Pair In America currently has no male positions available.

As an au pair you won’t pay anything to the site unless you decide to take a job with a host family which was recommended by them. They do warn, however, that you may need to pay a local Application Fee, which is information you’ll need to find out from your local agent. Another thing the site keeps close to its chest is the cost of any of its services. In fact you need to send them an email to find this out, though in our experience their reply was relatively quick and also had some relevant links and information for us. Customer service elsewhere is fairly average but by no means bad, particularly as a lot of the information you’re likely to want is provided on some of the key pages.

AupairinAmerica.com is a somewhat average site but it does seem a useful tool for anyone looking to relocate to America as an au pair because its services take some of the stress away from the application process. You can’t choose where you’ll end up, though, but you have the power when it comes to ultimately deciding whether or not to move in with a host family.
