Care.com is a professional outfit. Its site contains clear sections to help direct you through the various information and features that will be relevant to you, either as a care giver or as someone looking to hire a care giver. The site promotes a range of care, from babysitting to care for adults, special needs care to housekeeping, even offering care for your pets! So there are plenty of options, whatever your needs.

Although the site works well for the most part there were some irritations with having to enable Java scripts for it to run properly. Without these we encountered error messages and a general lack of profile pictures. Signing up is a simple process, if a little bland. You can, however, skip through parts of the registration process, which is good if you just want to go hunting for a job or employee quickly before deciding to fill in the gaps later. Generally speaking the profiles on this site were thoughtful and the members had made an effort to give you as much relevant information as possible. A gallery view of search results shows a username, photo, age, distance from you, how many years experience a member has in any particular role, how much they expect to be paid, whether they have passed criminal record checks and a few notes about themselves. This makes for an effective system as it means you can learn a lot about each person without having to go into each of their profile pages individually.

Performing a search is quick and easy but we would like to see more options available to us. All you can choose from is the job role and a location (based on a zip code). Particularly when it comes to children or vulnerable people we would like to be able to choose specifics such as experience with a certain age range or disability. We had plenty of local results to our searches though, which is very encouraging and presented a variety of people for us to consider.

Members using a free account can perform a search, look at profiles and place a job advert. However they must upgrade in order to reply to messages and request reference checks. The price is fairly average for this sort of service, though the membership numbers and choice of services available make this better value for money than most.

Although there is a fair amount of information on Care.com it is sometimes difficult to locate precisely the information you need. This is perhaps hindered by the variety of services offered, although you may use the FAQ for carers or a separate FAQ for families to help, call their centres or send an email. The FAQs cover key questions but would benefit from a search option.

Everything considered, Care.com is a very strong site for finding carers or carer jobs in a range of countries. Membership numbers are high enough that specific needs will be met and the site charges a very fair price for a good service.
